SUMMARY:Dementia Design Lab | Day 1 in Manchester
DESCRIPTION:Join us to imagine technology that could make life with dementia betterDay 1 | Drop-in sessions from 10:00-15:00\nWe’re inviting people living with dementia and the people who support them to a creative workshop in Manchester. \nDrop in to share what you enjoy\, what gets in the way\, and dream up ideas for new technology that could make everyday life richer. \nWe will play with ideas big and small from music to maps\, from robots to a proper chat with friends. Come and share what you love and help us picture what new technology for life with dementia could look like if it was designed around you. \nWhat happens on the day? Join us for one or more of our friendly sessions. Each session is about two hours long and looks at a different part of life. \n\n10:00 -12:00 22nd June: Getting around- homes\, streets\, shops and the places we go.\n12:00-13:00: Lunch\n13:00- 15:00 22nd June: Arts\, sport and things we love- music\, making\, moving\, and culture.\n10:00-12:00 23rd June: Staying in touch- talking\, listening and connecting\, in person and online.\n12:00-13:00: Lunch\n13:00-15:00 23rd June: Trusting technology- what makes tech useful\, trustworthy and affordable\n\nIn each session you’ll chat about what you enjoy\, what could be better\, and then we’ll imagine design ideas together. There will be no wrong answers\, and no tech skills needed. Some ideas might be gadgets or apps\, others might just be a clever twist on something everyday. \nWho it’s for: People with dementia and the people who support them. You don’t need any background in technology or design\, just a willingness to share your experience and try something creative. \nThe practical bits: The workshop is free to attend. There are two days in Manchester city centre\, easy to reach by train\, tram or bus. Food and refreshments are on us throughout. Everything is led by friendly facilitators who’ll make sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable. SUMMARY:BRIDGES N+ Annual conference
DESCRIPTION:The BRIDGES for Dementia Network+ is a national research initiative bringing together people with lived experience of dementia\, researchers\, designers\, and health professionals. \nOur goal is to rethink how technology can help people with dementia live full\, independent\, and connected lives. By combining expertise from arts\, health\, social care\, and technology\, we’ll co-design practical solutions that make a real difference to everyday life. \nWe would like to invite people with dementia\, researchers\, and representatives from different sectors to exchange their knowledge and experience to help improve the lives of those living with dementia. The conference is open to researchers\, universities\, industry\, charities\, and people with lived experience of dementia. \nThe conference will include updates on BRIDGES activities\, interactive sessions\, and technology demonstrations. We will also present opportunities to be involved in future funding calls and research. \nWho this event is for:\n\nWe would welcome members of the general public who have experience of supporting people living with dementia\, or who are living with dementia themselves.\nThe event is also open to researchers\, healthcare practitioners\, service providers\, or representatives of technology companies.\n\nAttendance is free\, but our room capacity is limited to 125 people. \nIn addition to the main conference\, we are running three parallel sessions. More details are available below. \nExhibition: We will have a number of partners who will be exhibiting their work and technology. The exhibition is an opportunity to network with members of the BRIDGES N+ who are working on technologies to improve the lives of those living with dementia. \nAgenda\n09:00 - 09:45 | Registration \n09:45 | Welcome and introduction — Dr. Jennifer MacRitchie\, BRIDGES N+ Director \n10:00 | Sheffield City Council Strategy on Dementia: Our Next Steps — Jo Pass (Assistant Director\, Living and Ageing Well) \n10:30 | How can businesses take into account people with dementia when designing products and services? — Gordon McCullough\, CEO Research Institute for Disabled Consumers \n10:50 | Break and networking opportunity \n11:10 | Panel discussion: The promise and pitfalls of technology and dementia \n11:55 | Co-design in practice: How people with lived experience may influence the design of new technology —  Roger Whitham & Joseph Lindley\, University of Lancaster \n12:15 | Technology presentations by companies \n\nMilbotix- Real-time physiological data capture\nTouchcraft- Interactive textiles\nZ-PULSE- advanced self-powered triboelectric sensors\n\n12:30 | Lunch and opportunity to view the exhibition \nParallel sessions from 13:30 – 15:00\nWe are running three parallel sessions from 13:30 – 15:00. Delegates are welcome to select one of the three to take part in. \nPlaces are limited for the Experiential Workshop and Early Career Researcher masterclass\, so places will be allocated on a first-come\, first-served basis by emailing bridgesfordementia@sheffield.ac.uk. \n\nParallel Session 1: Technical presentations by the wider research community- A series of talks will present to delegates the most recent research on different areas of technology and how they might impact the lives of people living with dementia.\n\n\nParallel Session 2: Experiential workshop on communication- In this interactive and experiential workshop\, Grace Stead from Enrichment for the Elderly will help researchers and practitioners experience how communication may be affected by dementia. Participants will learn how to communicate more effectively with people living with dementia\, how to make technological solutions more inclusive and how to best include people with dementia in activities. Places are limited to 20 participants.\n\n\nParallel Session 3: Early Career Researcher (ECR) masterclass- In this workshop chaired by Rachael Litherland from Innovations in Dementia\, ECRs are invited to present their research ideas to a panel composed of people with lived experience of dementia. The panel will provide feedback on your idea from the perspective of people affected by dementia. There will be an opportunity for you to ask specific questions that you would find it useful to have a lived experience viewpoint on.
